Dangers of Back Wrapping with a Stretch Wrap

By Rachel Moynihan Beecham and Beth at Karritreelane

Stretchy cotton jersey wraps are a wonderful soft wrap designed for carrying babies from birth through to approx 8kgs. The fabric has stretch similar to a quality tshirt. These wraps give a correct carrying position but are only for front carrying a baby facing inwards towards the wearer.

Brands include:

Hug-a-bub

Moby wrap

Sleepy Wrap / Boba Wrap

Tricot-slen

This video illustrates the dangers of using these wraps for a back carry. This one has a superb comparison of stretch and woven wraps.

Hybrid Stretch brands which are shown to be safe for back carries:

Je Porte Mon Bebe

Wrapsody Bali stretch – video here.

Many thanks to the Mamas who took their time to make these films.
